Easy Avocado Fudgsicles for Kids: A Nutritious Summer Dessert Option

by | May 1, 2025

If your kids are like mine, they’re always hungry and always asking for something sweet—especially when it’s hot outside. These avocado fudgsicles are a staple in our freezer because they check all the boxes: creamy, chocolatey, refreshing, and made with ingredients that fuel our body.

Avocados bring a rich texture and a boost of healthy fats, fiber, and vitamins that help support everything from brain development to steady energy levels.

No fancy equipment needed—just a blender, a few pantry staples, and some popsicle sticks. It’s not that you can’t also stock your freezer with regular popsicles or fudgsicles, but it’s nice to have options.

Why Add Avocados to a Fudgsicle Recipe?

Avocados are loaded with:

  • Heart-healthy monounsaturated fats that support brain development
  • Fiber to keep digestion smooth and your kids fuller longer.
  • Vitamin E, potassium, and folate, which are essential for growing bodies

And when blended, they make everything extra creamy!

Bonus? They don’t taste like avocados once mixed with chocolate. So even if your kid gives you the side-eye at the sight of something green, they’ll never know. Better yet, have them help you make them!

Ingredients for Avocado Fudgsicles

Avocado – adds creaminess and healthy fats that make these popsicles satisfying and nourishing.
Maple syrup – brings sweetness without the need for refined sugar.
Unsweetened cocoa powder – gives that deep, rich chocolate flavor kids (and adults) love.
Milk of choice – helps everything blend smoothly; use whatever works for your family, whether it’s dairy or plant-based.
Vanilla extract – adds a subtle warmth and rounds out the chocolate flavor.
Salt – just a pinch to enhance the sweetness and balance the overall flavor.

You’ll also need a food processor or blender, a popsicle mold, or small cups with popsicle sticks and a few sprinkles for fun!

How to Make Avocado Fudgsicles

Start by blending all of your ingredients together until the mixture is completely smooth and creamy. The key is to get rid of all the chunks.

Once it’s silky and well combined, pour the mixture into your popsicle molds. I used plastic 3 oz cups with popsicle sticks, which work great in a pinch and are totally kid-approved. If you want to make them extra fun, go ahead and toss a few sprinkles into the bottom of each cup before pouring in the mixture—or sprinkle some on top for a little pop of color and crunch.

Pop them in the freezer for at least 4 hours, or overnight if you’re planning ahead. When it’s time to serve, just run the cups under warm water for a few seconds or gently squeeze the sides of the cups to help release the fudgsicles easily.

Fun Add-Ins for Custom Avocado Fudgsicles

Because let’s be honest—kids love stuff in their treats. Try mixing in or topping with:

  • Mini chocolate chips
  • Rainbow sprinkles
  • Strawberry slices
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Crushed graham crackers for s’mores vibes
  • Peanut butter drizzle or sunbutter swirl for a nut-free option

Let your kids help decorate theirs before freezing—it turns snack time into an activity (and gives you a solid 10 minutes to drink your coffee while it’s still warm).

Popsicle Molds for Avocado Fudgsicles

There are so many things you could use to form your avocado fudgsicles. I kept it simple with 3 oz plastic cups and popsicle sticks, but you could also use reusable silicone popsicle molds, or even ice cube trays too! For the ice cube trays, simplyl cut popsicle sticks in half and place one in each cube for a mini avocado fudgsicle.

Recipe Variations

Make it your own depending on your family’s dietary needs or what your picky eater will actually eat:

  • Vegan fudgsicles: Use a non-dairy milk.
  • Extra protein: Add a scoop of your favorite kid-friendly protein powder, a tablespoon of hemp hearts, or even peanut butter.
  • More chocolatey: Add a tablespoon of melted chocolate chips to the mix before freezing.

Final Thoughts from a Mom Who Gets It

Feeding kids doesn’t need to be all-or-nothing, and dessert doesn’t need to be the enemy. This recipe is just one way to add more nutrients to your child’s diet.

And remember, it’s absolutely okay to purchase popsicles from the store, too! It’s just nice to have options like these avocado fudgsicles for when you have a little more time.
