This blog post is sponsored by Stonyfield Organic and all opinions are my own.

Have you ever found yourself frantically trying to gather everything you need to head out the door and then you remember you forgot the snacks?  What can you quickly grab that’s easy, healthy, won’t make a huge mess, and doesn’t require the entire kitchen (bowls, utensils, or cups)?

Finding a snack option that checks all the boxes can be challenging, but not anymore!  Yogurt is one of my favorite on-the-go snacks to recommend to parents to help check all these boxes.

You might be thinking: “but yogurt definitely requires a spoon and can be a huge mess!”  Oh, I hear you.  That’s why I love Stonyfield Organic YoBaby yogurt pouches for on the go – it’s the best baby yogurt for on the go!

  • Easy to grab n go for babies 6 months plus – not sure your baby is ready for solids, learn more here!
  • Can be eaten anywhere, outside and on the go – no spoon or bowl required
  • #1 pediatrician recommended!

There are a million different yogurts to choose from in the grocery store which can make it challenging to know which yogurt is best for babies.  Within this post, I will explain how to build a great on-the-go snack for your baby, what to look for in a good yogurt for babies, as well as why YoBaby yogurt pouches are the best baby yogurt for on-the-go.

How to build an on-the-go snack for your baby?

It’s hard enough to find a healthy snack in the comfort of your own home, but taking one on the go?  There are so many more things to consider; will it make a mess?  Is it easy for them to eat without my help?  Can they safely eat it in the car?  How much time do I need to prepare it?

At the end of the day, whatever snack you pack for your baby while out and about needs to be convenient, requires little preparation, and has some sort of nutritional value. No matter where you are, at home or out and about, it’s important to build a balanced snack for your baby.

Here’s my super simple snack formula:

Super Simple Snack formula: fruit or vegetable + protein or grain

With this super simple snack formula, you’re bound to have a wider variety of nutrients than if you just choose one food item.  Fruits and vegetables will help provide fiber plus valuable vitamins and minerals.  The protein or grain will help provide balance and a whole different set of nutrients than fruits and vegetables have to offer.

Once you create a balanced snack for your baby, or child, using the super simple snack formula (fruit or vegetable + protein or grain), you’re always welcome to add additional food groups to make the snack even more well-rounded.

The neat thing about YoBaby yogurt pouches is that they actually have oats in them to provide more nutritional value than other yogurts.

Easy on-the-go snack ideas for your baby

  • Fruits: sliced fresh fruit, bananas, freeze-dried fruit (my favorite), dino bars (12 months plus), fruit and vegetable pouches.
  • Vegetables: snap pea crisps, chickpea puffs, fruit and vegetable pouches, hummus
  • Protein: Stonyfield Organic YoBaby yogurt pouches, nut butter, sliced cheese, hummus
  • Grains: crackers, teething biscuits, puffs, cereal, pancakes

How to know which yogurt is best for babies?

Not all yogurts are made equally.  Can your baby just eat the yogurt you eat?  Sure, but there are a few things you should consider the next time you find yourself at the grocery store staring at the hundreds of yogurts to choose from.  Choosing the best baby yogurt and one that is designed specifically with your baby’s growth and development in mind is important so here’s what you should look for:

Made with whole milk

Full-fat, whole milk yogurt for babies provides a higher fat content than many low-fat yogurts and is important for optimal brain development and growth.  Pediatricians recommend whole milk dairy products until age two.

Made with real fruit

You’re welcome to choose plain yogurt for your baby, but many families enjoy flavored yogurt together.  When choosing a flavored yogurt make sure it includes real fruit – this way they get the real deal.

While zero added sugars are ideal, that’s not always possible, nor realistic for every family.  Aim for as low as possible when selecting a flavored yogurt.

Other important nutrients

Protein, Vitamin D, and calcium are all important nutrients for your baby’s growth and development and can be found in YoBaby yogurt pouches.

Prebiotics + live and active cultures

The best baby yogurt will include prebiotics, as well as live and active cultures.  These will provide more bang for your buck with what’s going into their tummy.

Ready for self-feeding

When choosing a good yogurt for babies while out and about, convenience is key.  YoBaby yogurt pouches are ready for self-feeding and can be eaten anywhere, outside and on the go, unlike a yogurt cup, which is great for when you’re at home.

What makes YoBaby yogurt pouches the best baby yogurt?

Not all yogurts are created equal and not all yogurt pouches are suited for babies.  YoBaby yogurt pouches are not only #1 pediatrician recommended, they’re made with your baby’s needs in mind. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends whole milk dairy products through two years of age and many yogurt pouches lack this specific recommendation.

Stonyfield Organic YoBaby yogurt pouches are made with pasture-raised whole milk, real fruit, they contain protein, Vitamin D, and Calcium, plus have the added bonus of prebiotics and live and active cultures, making them the best baby yogurt for on-the-go.

When you’re chilling at home and you’re feeling like giving your baby some practice with a spoon, use Stonyfield Organic YoBaby yogurt cups and let them feed themselves with another best yogurt for babies.

Conclusion

When choosing a snack for your baby, remember the super simple snack formula to give your baby the most bang for their buck nutritionally:

Super Simple Snack formula: fruit or vegetable + protein or grain

It can be challenging to find options with zero sugar or sodium, so do your best to compare brands to find options that are lower in these nutrients.

We can’t forget that snacks for on-the-go need to be easy with minimal potential for mess as possible.  Yogurt in a bowl not only requires a spoon but can also be used as a weapon to whip across the room – no one wants to clean up that mess.  Yogurt in a pouch doesn’t require a bowl or spoon, now that’s what I’m talking about!

Throw a YoBaby yogurt pouch in the stroller, diaper bag, or car, and feel good about a balanced option with all the benefits above that you’re giving your baby on the go – when it’s not always the easiest to make the best choices.  And don’t forget to add a fruit or vegetable to complete their snack.

If you’ll be out and about for more than four hours, toss the yogurt pouch in a lunch box with an ice pack or frozen water bottle to keep it cool.  If you’re just out for a quick trip, no need to keep cool.

Find a store near you that carries Stonyfield Organic YoBaby yogurt pouches and always keep them on hand for when you need a quick snack for your baby on-the-go.
