I don’t even like smore’s all that much, but these golden grahams s mores bars are to die for!  They’re now my go-to no bake bar to bring to summer picnics, parties, and cabin weekends.

Ingredients for Golden Grahams S mores Bars

These no bake s’mores bars are made with only four ingredients and the secret to making them extra ooey-gooey is extra butter and marshmallows.

You know how the side of the Rice Krispies box always has a recipe for Rice Krispie bars?  Well, I never go by that recipe.  It doesn’t have enough butter or marshmallows.  I add more, lots more!

Golden Grahams Cereal

The key to golden grahams s mores bars is really the golden grahams cereal and there’s not really a great alternative or many generic options.

Golden grahams cereal works perfectly for the s mores bars because they’re basically mini graham crackers.

Mini Marshmallows

You’re welcome to use regular size marshmallows, but I find that the mini ones melt better.

Another trick I have for ooey-gooey rice krispy treats is to set aside 2-3 cups of the mini marshmallows and add these back in once you mix in the cereal.  This way they only melt partially and you’re left with chunks of marshmallows throughout the s mores bars.

Butter

I prefer to use unsalted butter, but that’s just me.  Use what you have, but remember not to go light on the butter because it helps make these golden grahams s mores bars ooey-gooey.

Hershey’s Chocolate

You could certainly use chocolate chips in place of Hershey’s chocolate, but chocolate chips don’t quite have the same s’mores vibe as Hershey’s chocolate.

Feel free to add more or less based on how much you enjoy chocolate.

Equipment for Golden Grahams S mores Bars

Because these bars don’t require any baking, you really don’t need much, but a large pot, spatula, and a 9 x 13 baking pan at minimum. You can even ‘eye ball’ the ingredients if you don’t feel like using measuring cups.

  • Measure cups
  • Mixing bowl
  • Large, nonstick pot
  • Rubber spatula
  • 9 x 13 baking dish, or 2 8 x 8 baking dishes
  • Parchment paper – optional

How to make Golden Graham Rice Krispies

Melt Butter

First you’ll want to melt your butter on low to medium low until completely melted in a large, preferably non-stick pot, making sure not to have the heat up too high.

While your butter is melting, take this time to break up the Hershey’s chocolate bars into little pieces.

Melt Marshmallows

Next you’ll add in all but 2-3 cups of your mini marshmallows.  Set aside the 2-3 cups of marshmallows to add towards the end.

Continuously stir the marshmallows and the butter until they’re completely combined and the marshmallows are mostly melted.

Mix in Golden Grahams

From here you can add in your golden grahams cereal and additional mini marshmallows, stirring until the cereal is evenly coated with the melted marshmallows.

Add to Pan

Once you’re done with your arm work out of stirring your cereal and melted marshmallows you can transfer the mixture to a 9 x 13 baking pan and gently press down the mixture to form into the pan.

There’s no need to spray the pan ahead of time, but if you’d like less of a mess, you can line the pan with parchment paper for easy clean up.

I also like to use a piece or parchment paper to gently press down the cereal mixture into the pan using my hands.

Add Chocolate

Last, but definitely not least, you’ll add your pieces of chocolate to the golden grahams s mores bars.

I like to break up my Hershey’s bar into the rectangle pieces and then in half again while the butter is melting.

You’ll simply just press the Hershey’s chocolate pieces into the cereal mixture evenly throughout the pan.

I add the chocolate last because if you add it while you’re stirring the cereal into the melted marshmallows, the chocolate will likely melt. Give it a try if you’d like. It could actually be pretty tasty.

Variations

You can make no bake rice krispy treats with nearly any cereal you can think of!

How to Store Bars

To keep your golden grahams s mores bars as fresh as possible, try to use a pan with a lid and avoid cutting into individual pieces.  I always find that this make them harden easier and you can cut as big or little of a piece depending on what you’re feeling at the moment.

You really don’t need to worry about how long you can store these golden grahams s mores bars because they’ll be gone before you know it!

And if you’re wondering, you can keep these out on the counter.
